It has been almost five years since The MLC was first designated by the Register of Copyrights to administer the blanket license under the Music Modernization Act (MMA). The MMA requires that the Register review that designation every five years, and that process began this January. You can read more about this review process here.

One of the factors that the Register considers is the endorsement and support that The MLC has received from musical work copyright owners, which includes all those with the exclusive right to license musical works for activities covered by the blanket license.

When The MLC was first designated in 2019, The MLC was the only organization that received the endorsement and support of a majority of musical work copyright owners (measured by market share). To show that support, we collected endorsements from copyright owners like you and submitted them to the Register of Copyrights.

We are now collecting endorsements again, to show the Register that we have the support of our Members to continue serving them for the next five years. We invite you to join other Members showing their support of The MLC by adding your name to the list of Members who endorse our continued designation. You can do this by submitting the endorsement form found in The MLC Portal:
