When you have questions, The MLC is here to help. Below you’ll find a pair of questions we commonly receive related to musical works registrations and detailed answers for each of them. We hope you will find this information helpful as you manage your own musical works data:
Q. One or more of my works is already registered, how do I claim my share?
A. Once you’ve logged into your user account, click on “View Member” and select “Register Individual Work” under “Catalog” on the left side of the page, then search for the work by title and writer. Once you’ve found the work, click “View” and select “Edit” in the top right-hand corner. Then click “Edit” in the publisher section to add the publisher/administrator and the correct collection share, and click “Submit,” which will add the new work registration with the updated share information.
Q. I found that one of my works listed on The MLC Portal is already fully or partially claimed by another Member. If I register my claim, the total shares on the work will be greater than 100%. What do I do?
A. You should first review The MLC’s Dispute Policy to determine if a work conflict exists. If it does, please contact the Support Team to report the details of the work conflict. The MLC’s Publisher Services team will review the claims on the work and, upon receipt of the necessary information, may commence a Conflict Procedure (Section 4 of the Dispute Policy) to facilitate a timely resolution of the conflict directly among the impacted parties.
